Welcome to the first newsletter of 2018! The year has taken off to another record-breaking start with a new record task being set at Forbes and 6 new women’s world records in for verification.
Records at Forbes!Task 4 at the world renowned Forbes Flatlands hang gliding competition set a new World record for task distance, setting a goal at Manilla for 388km! 16 pilots made the goal with more than half the competition setting new personal bests! The conditions were so good that the first pilots in goal made it with an average task speed of over 74kmh! Now that’s fast! #howgoodisforbes! Alexandra Serebrennikova (Sasha) acheived 6 world record claims. On the first practice day she flew a 217km FAI triangle claiming - Distance over a triangular course (201.4km), Speed over a triangular course of 200km (37.83km) and Free distance around a triangle course 213km. On the record task 4 she launched first and pushed upwind to a declared turn point maximising her distance before flying to a goal just past the open class goal for 3 more world records claims! Straight distance (408.1km), Straight distance to a declared goal (407.99km) and Free distance (417.1 km) using upto 3 turn points. Gecko 170 and 155Carrying on from last year the Gecko 170 and 155 are in serious demand across the globe, Peter Garrone won the sport class on his 155 Gecko with a very consistent performance. Craig Taylor flew the Moyes demo 155 Gecko for the final 2 tasks of the Forbes flatlands competition after his glider unfortunately suffered damage. First a 160km triangle in the open task and then a 150km cats cradle task, completing both in impressive time, it's no surprise he has such a big grin on his face! Nice one Craig! Forbes Flatlands 2018 is a winner!We were presently surprised and quite delighted to receive the “Ambassador” award for our contribution to the Forbes local community presented from the Forbes Rotary Club. This award belongs to our whole team and the hang gliding community who make this event possible year after year. |
The New Zealand NationalsThe New Zealand Nationals have just finished up in Murchison, NZ. They had a great roll up of 46 pilots to celebrate their 40th anniversary!
