Welcome to the first newsletter of 2018! The year has taken off to another record-breaking start with a new record task being set at Forbes and 6 new women’s world records in for verification.
Records at Forbes!
Task 4 at the world renowned Forbes Flatlands hang gliding competition set a new World record for task distance, setting a goal at Manilla for 388km! 16 pilots made the goal with more than half the competition setting new personal bests! The conditions were so good that the first pilots in goal made it with an average task speed of over 74kmh! Now that’s fast! #howgoodisforbes!
Alexandra Serebrennikova (Sasha) acheived 6 world record claims. On the first practice day she flew a 217km FAI triangle claiming - Distance over a triangular course (201.4km), Speed over a triangular course of 200km (37.83km) and Free distance around a triangle course 213km. On the record task 4 she launched first and pushed upwind to a declared turn point maximising her distance before flying to a goal just past the open class goal for 3 more world records claims! Straight distance (408.1km), Straight distance to a declared goal (407.99km) and Free distance (417.1 km) using upto 3 turn points.
