Learning to hang glide had been a dream of mine for a long time, but actually taking the first step was something else entirely.

Over the past six months, and especially during our recent towing endorsement week at Urana, I’ve achieved things I genuinely never thought I’d be capable of. That’s a credit to the entire team at Moyes Hang Gliding Academy.

Curt and Bucky have a teaching style that strikes a rare balance. They’re incredibly knowledgeable and professional, but they also know exactly when to encourage, when to challenge, and when to simply let you learn. Every lesson felt structured, deliberate and focused on building real skills, sound judgement and confidence.

What stood out most to me throughout the journey was that the support extended far beyond the actual flying. Vicki was fantastic from day one, always approachable, patient and generous with her time. Whether it was answering endless questions, helping me understand the equipment and manufacturing process, or making sure my new glider was ready for Urana so I could fly my own wing during training, nothing ever seemed too much trouble.

Communication throughout the entire process has been excellent, but more importantly, there is a genuine sense that everyone at Moyes wants to see their students succeed. They don’t just teach you to fly and send you on your way. They actively help connect new pilots into the broader hang gliding community, introducing people to local groups, fly weekends and other pilots regardless of where they intend to fly. As someone new to the sport, that’s been incredibly valuable and honestly something I haven’t experienced in many other activities.

The quality of instruction is outstanding, but what really sets Moyes apart is the people. They helped me build both the skills and the confidence to do something I’d dreamed about for years, and for that I’ll always be grateful.

If you’re thinking about learning to hang glide, you’re in very good hands.
